NYAGATARE — The district director of education Silvestre Mutabaruka has urged youth to abstain from sex to avoid Aids.

He was addressing youth who turned up for volleyball kid’s league on Tuesday in Nyagatare. The event attracted a number of teenage clubs from seven sectors across the district.

"Abstinence is the best way to prevent Aids among the teenagers like you. Try your best to keep a distance from sex in order to live a health life without regrets," Mutabaruka said.

Mutabaruka said the youth should use their time to read the Bible or the Koran for Muslims, in stead of engaging in fornication.

The district youth coordinator Vincent Kalengera, told The New Times that the games were meant to communicate-HIV/AIDS awareness campaign to participants and community.

Organisers said the federation is organising kids league on the provincial level and those who will qualify will participate in the games on the national level.

The event was sponsored by UNICEF; each sector was represented by two teams. They were divided according to sex under the ages of 16.

Nyagatare sector emerged the winner in the male group after beating Rukomo sector first half 25-21, second half 25-19. For girls, Nyagatare again beat Mukama second round 20-25. All the participants received sports wear, nets and other volleyball materials.
