Editor,

The security meeting between authorities from Rwanda and Uganda held on Wednesday, December, 9, at Blue Sky Hotel in Nyagatare District was a sign of good cooperation between the countries.

I believe the delegation of Ugandan officials from the Western Districts of Ntungamo and Kabale and their counterparts in Rwanda learnt a lot from each other and we hope that issues concerning smuggling illegal products through our porous border points will be a thing of the past.

As a resident of the district, I look at such security meetings as a solution to the end of smuggled illicit drugs like marijuana or Crude Waragi from Uganda. Smoking Marinjana is not only illegal in Rwanda but also has severe side effects on the youth.

Many people have been arrested in Nyagatare trying to smuggle marijuana into our country. I think what needs to be done, urgently is to form a joint security team to find out why smuggling has persisted despite the presence of police from either side of the border.
