IT was just a matter of time before sloppy finishing caught up with the Amavubi Stars at the on-going Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Dar es Salaam.

And that moment came yesterday when the Wasps were forced to pack their bags after crashing to a 1-0 defeat against hosts Tanzania.

Kilimanjaro Stars’ captain Shadrack Nsajigwa, who also happens to be one of the most experienced players in the tournament, calmly scored from the spot kick after a reckless challenge by Clement Mukunzi on John Bocco.
But the tie could have gone differently had Rwanda converted their chances earlier on.

Similar to the group stage, Amavubi put to waste several goal scoring opportunities.
SC Kiyovu’s striking pair Peter Kagabo and Dady Birori was the major culprit after failing to make contact with a clever chip from left winger Jean Claude Iranzi.

Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza a.k.a Migi also failed to make the most of poor goalkeeping by Juma Kaseja. On the 30th minute, Iranzi dribbled past Juma Nyoso and Stefano Mwasika only to see his ground shot saved by Kaseja.
After the break, Tanzania took control of the game amid heavy downpour.

Tanzania’s trio of Mrisho Ngassa, Bakari and Shaban Mussa made life hard for Amavubi captain Haruna Niyonzima and Migi in the midfield.

Amavubi Coach Sellas Tetteh tried to reinforce the striking line by bringing on Kipson Atuheire but it was all in vain.
Tanzania will now play defending champions Uganda in the semi-final. Uganda needed penalties to see off a brave Zanzibar side.

Normal time ended with both sides level 2-2.
Mike Sserumaga and Emmanuel Okwi scored for the Cranes while a well taken free kick from Khamis Micha Khamis and an 88th minute header Aggrey Morris Ambrose pushed the tie into penalties.

Uganda’s goalkeeper Robert Odonkara then saved Morris’ penalty to gift the champions a 5-3 win.
Action resumes on Friday.
