When Ivory Coast finally went to the polls in November, Africa and the world expected that the elections would help bring a lasting solution to political problems that have faced this country for so many years.

Since 2002, Ivory Coast has been characterized by civil war that left the country divided into two and many innocent lives lost.

Laurent Gbagbo and Alassane Ouattara must remain restrained and their differences should not result into unnecessary suffering of the people of Ivory Coast.

Like many other people, I was surprised to learn that after the electoral commission announced opposition leader Alassane Ouattara as the winner of the election, President Laurent Gbagbo went ahead and sworn-on.

We don’t want to see more Africans die at the hands of seiffish leaders. We have had enough suffering. Let us pray Ivory Coast is not thrown back into violence and civil unrest.
