Dear Editor,
When a door closes on one, God opens another. While the crisis in Kenya is growing and causing economic problems in the Great Lakes Region, we should be looking for alternatives for routing merchandise to and from the country.
I wish to suggest that the government constructs a ship canal from Mozambique through River Shire, Zambezi to Lake Nyasa, through Lake Tanganyika and then to Rwanda.
Since this would pass through a rift valley, there will be less or no obstacles. It would make a lot of economic sense for all the countries in region. I believe Malawi has a proposed project for the same. We should also fall suit.
