The 2023 men and women's handball national league will commence on February 25, handball federation Secretary General, Pascal Tuyisenge, has confirmed.

The championship will feature nine teams in men category while the women's league will attract seven teams.

According to Tuyisenge, the league will be played in two phases, home and away, while the top four teams in each category will meet between them in the playoffs.

Police Handball Club and Kiziguro won the championship in men and women categories respectively last season.

Participating clubs:

Men: Police, Gicumbi, APR, Adegi-Gituza, ES Kigoma, Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle, College Saint Martin Hanika, UR-Huye and Nyakabanda.

Women: Kiziguro, Gicumbi, Three Stars, Nyamasheke, GS Kitabi, UR-Rukara and UR-Huye.
