GATSIBO — Jobs are at stake for head teachers in Gatsibo district who fail to pass even a single student in national examinations, the mayor has warned.

The warning follows results of last year’s primary six candidates, in which eight schools in the district; failed to get a single pupil who attained the pass mark set by the Ministry of Education and Rwanda National Examination Council.

Speaking during the celebrations to mark Heroes Day at Ngarama Sector last week, John Murego noted that one must have done something of public interest to qualify as a hero.

Thousands of residents attended the celebrations punctuated by a march by district officials, workers from different organisations in the district and students.

He observed that heroes are born and raised from child hood.

"Children deserve to learn because education is a key and it’s the basic foundation that one can ever have in life.

We shall not tolerate head teachers whose schools fail to pass even a single student,” Murego said.

He thanked teachers in Ngarama for producing the best pupil in the district; in last year’s primary leaving examinations. He noted that they are sure to be breeding heroes.

The best performing primary school in the district, according to the district ranking was Bibare Primary School.

During the same function certificates of merit and mobile telephone handsets were awarded to the district traditional group-Intore- for their role in unifying and mobilizing communities for development.
