Rwamagana authorities are appealing to local entrepreneurs to invest in the district. During an extraordinary meeting, yesterday, the Minister in the President’s Office, Solina Nyirahabimana, who is specifically designated to oversee the district’s development, encouraged people originating from Rwamagana to spearhead its development programmes.

The meeting was held under the theme, ‘The role of residents/settlers in the sustainable economic development of Rwamagana district.’

Nyirahabimana said that such a meeting was very important for the development of the district.

"Let us take the challenge to help our district rise to its expectations. We must be able to evaluate how much we are doing and its implications,” she said.

"It is imperative that we join the competition. Rwamagana has all it takes to be among the best districts in the country, but our involvement in development programmes is still wanting.”

Nyirahabimana said that residents should be able to invest in sound development projects in various fields. The activities of local people could determine the response of international investors, she noted.

The Mayor, Nehime Uwimana, urged the  residents change the negative attitude towards work and focus on development.

Jean Claude Cuma, the Vice Mayor in charge of Economic Affairs, emphasised the importance of taking ownership of the district’s challenges.

"Let each one of us own the problems of the district and evaluate our responsibility in the districts slow economic performance,” he said. "It is unfortunate that anyone who gets rich, leaves Rwamagana for another place especially Kigali.”

Rwamagana district has a population of over 250,000 people.
