KARONGI – A man who allegedly defiled his 13-year old stepdaughter has been arrested and detained at Bwishyura Police Station, Karongi District. Alfred Nsengiyumva, 40, was arrested, last week, following a tip off from suspicious residents, who had seen the young girl spend time in a lodge on more than two occasions.

Alfred Nsengiyumva, 40, was arrested, last week, following a tip off from suspicious residents, who had seen the young girl spend time in a lodge on more than two occasions.
Nsengiyumva has three children with the mother of the victim. Medics at Kibuye Hospital confirmed that the girl had been defiled.
Upon arrest, Nsengiyumva, a pump attendant at Kobil Petrol station in Kiyovu, a
Kigali suburb, immediately confessed to committing the crime.
"She had come to pick money for domestic use and I got tempted,” Nsengiyumva, who hails from Ruhango District, confessed to The New Times at Karongi Intermediate Court, where he was charged.
Nsengiyumva’s arrest comes amidst a nationwide campaign against cross-generation sex.
Police have warned young people against engaging in sexual relationships with men and women, who are much older than them.
"Residents ought to work closely with local authorities and security organs in order to fight the vice of cross-generation sex,” a police officer said.
If convicted, Nsengiyumva faces up to 25 years in jail.
