The Rwanda Development Authority (WDA), in collaboration with its development partners, have organised an international symposium on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

TVET is an internationally recommended hands-on practical training approach which integrates all education systems, specifically the technical and vocational aspects.

The symposium, that will bring together a cross-section of participants from the international and regional arena is aimed at exchanging experiences and insights on TVET development in Rwanda.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, the Director General of WDA, Albert Nsengiyumva, said that the symposium will focus on best practices from other countries in TVET, partnership with private sector and financing TVET.

Participants in the symposium that will take place from the December 6 – 9 are expected to come from Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Dr Congo Burundi, Zambia, South Africa, Senegal, Tunisia, Vietnam, France, Belgium, UK, Denmark and Israel.

"At the symposium we expect to share best practices in TVET, network with partners and inform the WDA and the Ministry of Education in the development of TVET policies and strategy in Rwanda,” said Nsengiyumva.

The symposium is organised within the framework of the ‘Support Programme for Vocational Training in Rwanda,’ a programme that was co-founded by the government of Rwanda and the Kingdom of Belgium.

WDA also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a Germany company (G.U.N.T) that deals with equipment for engineering education.

The Internationally recognized company is expected to help TVET institutions come up with their own designed equipment at more affordable prices.
