KIGALI - The Rwanda National Police (RNP) has asked the Kenyan Police investigate the death of a Rwandan truck driver in Kenya.

The Commissioner General of Police, Emmanuel Gasana, formally requested the Kenyan Police, to trace and arrest the culprits who took part in the mob lynching that resulted in the death of Laurent Bizimungu, a Rwandan driver of Fuel truck registration No.RAA 292P.

"We are using the existent smooth bilateral cooperation between Rwanda and Kenya Police and the Interpol accessories to reach our counterparts and get the culprits to pay for it,”

"Criminals have no room in the civilized world and Rwandan drivers must retain the confidence in the security situation on the Kenyan roads,” the Police Chief said.

Bizimungu was lynched by a mob in Kenya and later died November, 30 at Nyanza Provincial Hospital in the western Kenyan town of Kisumu from the injuries caused by the beating.

He was critically beaten on Saturday, November 27, by a mob of passengers who were travelling in a bus belonging to Easy Coach Company owned by former Kenyan President Daniel Arap Moi.

Bizimungu stopped the petrol tanker he was driving after it got involved in a minor accident with the bus.

"No one died or was injured during the accident. It is not clear why the passengers reacted that way,” Tabura Sebirezi, Bizimungu’s boss said.

It is alleged that after the incident, the driver of the bus, Reg. number KBL 643A which was travelling to Busia from Kisumu, hit Bizimungu with a metallic bar on the head before other passengers joined in.

Bizimungu, 49, is survived by 7 children.
