KIGALI - Gatsibo District police authorities have arrested two suspects in connection with the death of Rwikiniro Primary School Headmaster Johnson Ndinda.

Ndinda, 55, died a week after being admitted at King Faisal Hospital with deep cuts on the head and injuries sustained following an attack by machete-wielding assailants at his home in Rwimbogo Sector on January 14 this year.

Police Spokesman, Inspector Willy Marcel Higiro, confirmed the arrest of two suspects. He identified the suspects in custody as Augustine Rutaganda, a neighbour to late Ndinda and Aloys Kamuzinzi, the deceased’s brother-in-law.

Kamuzinzi allegedly borrowed Frw150, 000 from Ndinda on the understanding that he would repay the loan within one months’ time after.

For many years, Kamuzinzi reportedly refused to pay back the loan.

Ndinda and his family’s requests were responded to with death threats. 

It is believed that Kamuzinzi was financially well off to repay the loan.

Ndinda had previously been accosted by Kamuzinzi and allegedly robbed of Frw4,500, 000.

The deceased’s relatives say that despite reporting the incident to local authorities, no action was taken.

Rwimbogo Sector Executive Secretary, Fred Murara Kazoora, recalls the case being reported but since Ndinda had not been physically injured, it was decided that the matter be settled out of court.
