EASBRIG MEMBERS MEET IN BUJUMBURA

The Chief of Defence Staff Lt Gen Charles Kayonga arrived in the Burundi capital, Bujumbura on Tuesday to attend a two-day Eastern Africa Standby Brigade [EASBRIG] meeting of the Defence Chiefs.

The Chief of Defence Staff Lt Gen Charles Kayonga arrived in the Burundi capital, Bujumbura on Tuesday to attend a two-day Eastern Africa Standby Brigade [EASBRIG] meeting of the Defence Chiefs.

The meeting will be followed by the EASBRIG Council of Defence Ministers meeting that is scheduled from 3rd – 4th December 2010 in Bujumbura.

The government of Rwanda will be represented at the Council by the Minister of Defence, Gen James Kabarebe who is scheduled to arrive in Bujumbura today, Thursday.

The meeting will discuss among other things the Policy Framework for the Establishment of the Eastern Africa Standby Force [EASF] and the Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation between the Eastern Africa Standby Force Coordination Mechanism [EASBRICOM] and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development [IGAD] that aims to harmonise the relations of both institutions in the area of peace and security.
 
EASBRIG is composed of 12 member states.
