Junior Wasps vs Club Africain

THE national U-17 side; the junior wasps continued their build-up to January’s Caf U-17 championship with a hard fought 2-all draw against their Tunisian counterparts.

Coach Richard Tardy handed debuts to the foreign-based trio of Djarud Karenzi, Bonfils Kabanda and Raymond Lepart but it was Kabanda who impressed according to a source from the junior wasps’ camp.

Kabanda, who plays on the left wing, capped his debut with the team’s equaliser after two quick second half goals from Tunisia.

Junior Wasps skipper Emery Bayisenge scored the opener.
The team will wind up their three-week training camp with a game against Club Africain’s youth side.

Tardy’s team started off with a goalless draw against US Monastir but improved to register a 1-0 win in the next game. They then beat JS Kairouanaise U-20 1-0.

For next year’s championship, the team is drawn in Group A alongside Senegal, Egypt and Burkina Faso and will open their 2011 U-17 Africa Youth Championship campaign against the latter.

Group B pits reigning champions Gambia against Ivory Coast, Mali and Congo Brazzaville.

The tournament which runs from January 8-22 will be jointly held in Kigali and Rubavu. The top four will qualify for next year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup in Mexico.
