According to the Regional Police commander, Chief Supt. Bosco Rangira, this is the second time this year, the exercise is being conducted.

"We have been impounding these drugs for the past six months and this is the second time we are destroying them this year. The first consignment of about 600kg was burnt in March,” Rangira said.

The police identified Gisenyi sector as the main entry  point for the prohibited drugs. At least 534 litres of banned alcohol was also destroyed.

The only mechanism of fighting this practice is to work with the stakeholders, partners as well as the entire community which should be the whistleblowers,” explained Rangira.
