KARONGI - The Office of the Ombudsman is conducting a countrywide anti-corruption campaign through the use of drama, ahead of next week’s International Day dedicated to Fighting against Corruption.

Leading local musicians and poets from the seven districts of the Western Province, yesterday, staged plays with anti corruption messages, as part of the activities.
Among the participants were inmates from Rusizi District prison.

According to Xavier Mbarubukeye, from the Office of the Ombudsman, the campaign aims at promoting responsible citizens.

"This assists us to impart the message against corruption which in turn helps to enhance good leadership in the country,” Mbarubukeye said.

He pledged support to musicians and poets in the area, saying it is an effective way of spreading the message.
"Diversification in the spread of our messages helps us to bring on board as many people as possible,” he said.

One of the inmates who emerged second best musician in Rusizi said that the exercise has helped transform him. 

"Despite being a criminal, this programme has enabled me to understand that after my jail term, there is hope for a better future,” he said.
