MARCEL Desailly is still in the running to become Ghana’s coach after being named in a five-man shortlist for the post on Monday.

The list drawn up by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) also includes ex-Morocco coach Humberto Cuelho.

It is completed by former Partizan Belgrade coach Goran Stevanovic, Turkish coach Can Vanli and Herbert Addo, who coaches in Ghana.

Ghana are looking for a successor to the Serbian Milovan Rajevac. Rajevac did not make the shortlist despite expressing interest in returning to the post.

He opted not to extend his contract in September, ending a two-year stint during which he steered Ghana to the final of the 2010 African Cup of Nations and the last eight of the World Cup in South Africa.

Desailly, who was born in Accra, is hoping his hugely impressive playing career could help him clinch the post.
He won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 with France, ended his playing career in 2006 after spells with Olympique Marseille, AC Milan and Chelsea.

Despite his impressive playing record, he has yet to try his hand at coaching.

Cuelho was Portugal coach when they reached the semi finals of the 2004 European Championships and has also been in charge of Morocco and Tunisia on the African continent.

Stevanovic, who was the assistant for Serbia at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, led Partizan Belgrade the league titles last season.

Addo took Aduana Stars to the Ghana league title in only their first season in the top flight.

He is currently in charge of the home-based Black Stars preparing for the second Championship of African Nations tournament in Sudan next year.

Vanli, who was on the technical team of the Turkish national team at the 2002 World Cup is currently in charge of Maldivian side VB Sports Club.

The GFA says it will announce an appointment before the end of the year.
