RWANDA’s Amavubi Stars will qualify for the quarter-finals if they beat Sudan this afternoon at Dar es Salaam’s national stadium.

The wasps got their Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup campaign off to a flier after stunning Group B favourites Ivory Coast 2-1 and a win today will all but see them through to the next stage.

After watching Sudan’s opener against Zanzibar, one of the team’s assistant coaches Eric Nshimiyimana is convinced Rwanda will prevail.

"From their opening game, they looked comfortable on the ball but could not take away their chances so our task is simple; close them down and then take our chances,” the ex-Amavubi midfielder noted.

Amavubi head coach Sellas Tetteh is likely to stick to the same side which shocked the Elephants on Sunday.
Sudan suffered a 2-0 defeat against Zanzibar but head coach Nasir Awad is optimistic his youthful side will bounce back today.

"We made silly mistakes against Zanzibar but that’s in the past. Our objective is to win tomorrow’s game and we shall fight till the end,” he said.

The other day’s game pits Ivory Coast against group leaders Zanzibar.

In yesterday’s matches, Burundi and Zambia moved to four points apiece after their goalless draw while hosts Tanzania bounced back from their day one defeat with a compelling 3-0 win over minnows Somalia. The win leaves Tanzania in third place in Group A, one point short of Burundi and Zambia.

Somalia remains at the bottom.
