London Games Beach Volleyball qualifiers

FIVE teams including Tanzania, Burundi, Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda will grace this week’s CAVB Continental Beach Volleyball Cup at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel beach.

The three-day tourney which throws off this Thursday is a launch pad for the 2012 London Olympic Games qualifiers.

The pair of Flavien Ndamukunda and Jean Luc Mbonyuwontuma together with Pierre Marshall Kwizera and Leo Fidele Mutesi will lead Rwanda’s surge in the male category while Emilienne Uwineza & Jeanette Niyigena and Judith Hakizimana & Charlotte Nzayisenga will compete in the ladies’ category.

According to the head of the national Beach volleyball commission Alexis Mbaraga, the tournament will cost Rwf33m.

"The tournament budget stands at Rwf33m and the Sports Ministry has offered to give us Rwf 16m,” he said, adding, "we also expect between 3000-5000 euros from CAVB.”

"Bralirwa and Inyange are also willing on come on board.”
