AMAVUBI Stars head coach Sellas Tetteh has asked his players not to rest on their laurels insisting that the tough journey is just beginning.

The Wasps pulled off one of the shocking results in the on-going Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup when they stunned West African giants Ivory Coast 2-1 on Sunday. Victory left Rwanda on level points with Group B leaders Zanzibar but the latter enjoys a superior goal difference after stunning Sudan 2-0.

With still Sudan and Zanzibar to play in the group, the Ghanaian has asked the players to maintain their focus and hunger to win.

"We got the start we were looking for so it is now important that we build on it,” he emphasised.

At the end of the group stages, the top two from the three groups together with the best two third finishers will progress to the quarter-finals.

After trailing the Elephants on the 19th minute, the wasps restored parity with a fine header from SC Kiyovu striker Dady Birori at the stroke of half time. And with 17 minutes to play, Peter Kagabo scored the winner from close range to end a three-game losing streak.

When asked if the title was within reach for the team, Tetteh said, "It’s too early to start talking about the title. We are taking it game by game.”

Rwanda has won the event once; in 1999 when they fielded two teams. Yesterday

Meanwhile, defending champions Uganda got off to a flying start after yesterday’s 2-1 win over Ethiopia in Group C.

Simeon Masaba and Henry Kisekka got the goals for the Uganda Cranes while Shemeles Bekele scored Ethiopia’s consolation.

In the other group game, guest side Malawi stunned Kenya 3-2 victory. Midfielder Davi Banda scored a brace while APR’s Victor Nyirenda scored the other goal to gift Phiri Kinnah a good start.

Kenya’s goals were scored by John Baraza and Fred Ajwang.
