High turnout for Mother and Child Health Week

GICUMBI- There was a high turnout for the mass polio vaccination exercise in Byumba Sector, Gicumbi district as the Mother and Child Health Week was launched yesterday.

The residents accompanied of their children, started arriving at various vaccination sites as early as 7.00 am.

"A total of six vaccination sites have been put in place in Byumba Sector,” said the head of nurses at Gacurabwenge Cell vaccination site, Jean Damascene Nizeyimana.

Nizeyimana said the Mother and child health week entails availing pregnant mothers with iron tablets; vitamin A to children aged between 6 months and five years and de-worming tablets and polio vaccinations to children aged below 16 years.

Byumba Sector vaccination sites included Gacurabwenge, Nyamabuye, Gisuna and Nyarutarama Cell offices.

Other sites are Nyande Primary School and Gicumbi stadium. Similar activities took place in neighbouring Kageyo and Rukomo sectors.
