Rights report to be presented to parliament

KIGALI - The Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, Sylvie Zainabu Kayitesi, will, tomorrow, present the 2009 Human Rights report to a joint parliamentary session of MPs and Senators.

KIGALI - The Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, Sylvie Zainabu Kayitesi, will, tomorrow, present the 2009 Human Rights report to a joint parliamentary session of MPs and Senators.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Jean Damascene Ntawukuriryayo, confirmed the development and added that that the Human rights commission will as well table its 2010 plan of activities to the Parliament.

Pursuant to the Constitution, the National Human Rights Commission last presented to Parliament, its annual report in June last year.

The 2008 report which was presented Kayitesi, comprised of four elements in the Human Rights field which are, promotion and protection of human rights various aspects, specific activities carried out within the context of promotion and protection of human rights, the use of funds from State budget or donors as well as recommendations made by the commission.

Since 2008, Rwanda has enacted various laws, and put in place programs and policies designed to protect rights of her people.

During tomorrow’s session, MPs are Senators are expected to quiz Kayitesi on several issues related to human rights protection in the country.
