KIGALI - As the festive season draws nearer, the traffic police has put in place a string of measures to ensure road safety during the festive season.

This was revealed during a meeting the Commissioner General of Police (CGP), Emmanuel Gasana, held with 450 traffic police officers at the Police Head quarters, yesterday.

CGP Gasana urged the officers to step up their focus and commitment and to be less tolerant of those who have a tendency of violating laws.

"We are on the move to greater perfection for the Police services in general and traffic Police is not only an important component of the Police force but a crucial one as well,” Gasana said, adding that it is more visible and more interactive with the Public than other Police departments.

"Rwanda and particularly Kigali is known for its calm and peaceful environment and we are likely to get even more visitors who may wish to share this conducive environment during the festive season.”

"The month of December should have even fewer incidents (or at best none) than the rest of year given that it is a month of celebrations which shouldn’t mix with remorse,” Gasana told the traffic officers.

"I am particularly disturbed every time I learn of an incident where a kid has been knocked down by a vehicle and I ask myself many intriguing questions on such an incident. I say we must look for solution to this and other malpractices.”

Commissioner for  Operations and Public order ACP Emmanuel Butera and the Chief of traffic Police CSP, Vincent Sano,  also attended the meeting.
