What punishment suits people involved in cross generation sex?

There are several cases of older men and women promoting the sugar daddy and sugar mummy relationships hence a social norm that is creating high HIV prevalence amongst the youth.

Cross generation sex is a non-marital relationship between a young woman or man aged between 15 and 24 years with a man or woman at least ten years her senior.

The campaigns carried out on radio, television and billboards, and in youth friendly centers are aimed to reducing HIV infections among vulnerable young men and women.

In 2005 a study was made by the Demographic Healthy Survey (DHS) showing that Girls who were infected with HIV were five times more than the boys. While Behavior Sexual Survey (BSS) proved that 12.1% of girls have their first sexual encounter with men ten-years older than them hence raising the risk of contracting HIV AIDS.

It’s on these grounds that people gave their views on the required punishment for the offenders and promoters of Cross generation sex as a social vice.

Donat Kabandana (Car-Ticketing attendant)
The appropriate punishment for such offenders is 20-30years of imprisonment. Sugar daddies and mummies relationship greatly damage our children‘s future.

Natasha Uwase (Sales Personnel)
With the ongoing campaign that condemns the act, the offenders need to be imprisoned and there is need for rehabilitation because this being a social vice, there is need for maximum sensitization regarding the issue.

Richard Mugabo (Hair Dresser)
I would recommend 5-7 years of imprisonment if found guilt of the crime. During this time the offender realizes his or her mistake and they get the opportunity to repent and become advocates that denounce the act.

Annette Umutesi (Student)
Life imprisonment suits such people because ‘old habits die hard’ therefore if they are set free it quite possible that they will continue doing the same.

 Valence Rutayisire (Motor bike transporter)
Cross generation sex promoters should face the same punishments just like those that commit defilement because at the end the day their crime involves sexual abuse.
