Indian community participates in Umuganda

KIGALI - The Indian community in Rwanda, under their umbrella association, the Indian Association of Rwanda (INAR), yesterday, participated in the monthly community work locally known as “Umuganda” in Kacyiru Sector, Gasabo District. The community was joined by Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, the Mayor of Kigali City, cleared the bushy area in the Uruguru Estate in Kacyiru sector.

KIGALI - The Indian community in Rwanda, under their umbrella association, the Indian Association of Rwanda (INAR), yesterday, participated in the monthly community work locally known as "Umuganda” in Kacyiru Sector, Gasabo District.

The community was joined by Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, the Mayor of Kigali City, cleared the bushy area in the Uruguru Estate in Kacyiru sector.

Speaking at the event, the Mayor hailed the Indian community for participating in the noble cause that is aimed at making the city greener and cleaner.

"The members of the Indian Association in Rwanda came to us saying that they also want to participate in cleaning and greening the city and we gave them a go ahead,” she said.

She added that the community work makes Kigali city unique where people feel the sense of belonging and promotes community development and bonding.

"This activity brings us to the closure of the beatifications and greening of Kigali city week aimed at having a greener and more hygienic city,” she noted.

Dinesh Kalyan, the Vice chairman of the INAR, said that the Indian community is very much interested in making the city of Kigali green and clean.

"We are very proud of participating in the community work because we also support the initiative since it promotes community development,” he said.

Kalyan added that they are planning to look for other ways to get closer to the Rwandan people and culture.

According to Srinath Vardhineni, the General Secretary of INAR, the community is very pleased to beatify the city that gives them good business environment and enough security.

"This is the beginning. We are committed to continue doing more and more to make Kigali City clean and green,” he stressed.
