Yesterday’s results

Tanzania  0-1         Zambia

AMAVUBI will have one thing on their mind when they open their Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup campaign this afternoon; to win.

The wasps open their Group B campaign against Ivory Coast at the 60,000 seater National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The day’s action kicks off with a thrilling contest between Sudan and Zanzibar at 1pm.

Amavubi landed in Dar es Salaam yesterday morning and had a light training session later in the day to acclimatize to the humid conditions.

The team’s head coach Sellas Tetteh says that a good start is what they need to settle in.

"The boys are focused at the task at hand and I hope they will deliver,” the Ghanaian said.

In the teams’ previous meeting, Rwanda suffered a 3-0 defeat but Tetteh will take solace from the fact that they are up against a short of strength Ivory Coast side.

The team is without most of their foreign based players like Didier Drogba, Didier Zokora, Emmanuel Eboue and the Toure brothers; Yaya and Kolo among others.

For the likes of Rwanda, Ivory Coast, Uganda and Sudan, the tournament is a build up to next year’s African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Yesterday, hosts Tanzania were frustrated to a 0-1 loss against guest side Zambia. Power Dynamos midfielder Kennedy Mudenda scored the lone goal to hand Zambia a strong start.

Uganda, who beat Rwanda in last year’s final (2-0), are chasing for their 12th title.
