A newly refurbished sate of the art paediatric wing was, on Friday, commissioned at the University teaching hospital in Butare.  At the same time 2 million Euros, has been earmarked to construct and to equip the hospital.

Next, will follow the construction and equipping of the maternity and emergency wings, with modern medical facilities.

Specifically the emphasis on paediatric care is an important step.  Rwanda’s future is in its young people and guaranteeing their wellbeing right from childhood, is a cornerstone of raising a healthy and productive population.

Through various interventions in the health sector, the government of Rwanda and its partners have demonstrated a commitment to ensuring a healthy population that will make Rwanda’s economic transformation a reality. The near universal health insurance, and the well equipped and stocked health facilities, attest to the success of the relentless efforts by the government.

The commitment to increase the quality of teaching and research at the National University teaching hospital, demonstrates a commitment to the building of good quality medical personnel capable of meeting the health challenges of all citizens.

It is imperative that the private sector takes a leaf from  government’s determination to invest in the health sector.
