The Japanese Ambassador to Rwanda has said that his embassy will embark on strengthening relationship between the two countries through cultural exchange.

Speaking during the launch of the first Japanese films screening in Rwanda at Kimisagara Youth Centre, Kunio Hatanaka said cultural exchanges are important in the two countries’ relations.

"We believe that the establishment of our embassy in January in Kigali will contribute to strengthen the already existing friendly relations between our countries and people through cultural exchange among others,” he said.

He added that his embassy will create more opportunities of culture exchange by involving as many Rwandan children as possible so that Japanese children share the views and cooperate for creating better future.

The main attraction of the day was the screening of, Daraemon, an award winning movie that has been screened in many countries.  

The movie that premiered in 1969 has been Japanese most popular animation that depicts Japanese culture.

"Today, we would like Rwanda to experience Doraemon’s magic and we hope that his world of imagination will inspire children to lead the development of Rwanda in the future,” Hatanaka said.

Doraemon is said to have characterized the mentality of the 70s in Japan, where people were dreaming about the future during their hard work in the middle of the country’s economic development.
