GICUMBI - Members of the Gicumbi District Private Sector Federation (PSF) Thursday elected new committee members to represent them in higher government forums.
Those elected include the District PSF chairperson, Augustine Munyakazi, the proprietor of Byumba’s chez Munyakazi commercial building complex. He replaces Gratien Mupenzi, whose term in office had expired.

Munyakazi sailed through with 142 votes out of 151 votes cast. The post of the district first vice chairperson was taken by Bank of Kigali (BK), Gicumbi branch manager, Allen Muhongayire, who got 144 votes.

The post of second district PSF vice chairman was taken unopposed, by the proprietor of Byumba ENGEN Petrol station, Claude Hategekimana, who garnered a total of 140 votes.

Also elected were committee members for 10 various district private sector organizations, comprising of the chairperson and vice chairperson.

The organisations include agriculture and livestock farmers, tourism, industry, ICT, artisans, retail and wholesale traders. Others include the youth and women district councils and cooperative societies.

In his address to the newly elected members, the outgoing chairman, Mupenzi, called on the new team to work with dedication and self sacrifice to promote the private sector.

"Your new responsibilities are to represent the interests of the private sector at higher forums, which include assisting members to make business plans and acquire loans from financial institutions,” said Mupenzi.

He urged the members to work closely with the district and other government bodies, in securing markets for products produced by the private sector.

"In addition, you should settle conflicts that arise among members of the district private sector,” added Mupenzi.

The elections were presided over by Gicumbi District National Electoral Commission (NEC), officer, Richard Gakwerere.
