2011 Caf U-17 Championship hosts Rwanda and defending champions Gambia will be top seeds in their respective groups.

The draw, which is expected to attract top officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), will be held this afternoon at Lake Kivu Serena hotel in Rubavu.

With Senegal, Gabon, Mali, Egypt and Ivory Coast also through, the eighth and final qualification slot was still being contested between Burkina Faso and Reunion Island by press time. Egypt, who won the event in 1997 and reached the semi final in 2003, will be participating for the third time, which is also the case for Ivory Coast that finished third in 2005. Gambia will attempt to win a third crown after triumphs in 2005 and 2009.

After eliminating Cameroon, Mali is looking to improve on its semi-final finish in 1995, 1997, 1999 and 2001. The tournament will run from January 8-22 at Amahoro and Umuganda stadium. The top four will qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Mexico.
