KIGALI - Over 70 percent of Information and Communication Technology graduates in the country pass job interviews whenever short listed.

This was revealed yesterday at a workshop on Information Technology organized by Tumba College of Technology (TCT), in Kigali.

The workshop, that drew industrialists and ICT experts, aimed at sharing experiences in an effort to further develop the technology sector.

Speaking to The New Times, Eng. Pascal Gatabazi, the principal of TCT, said Rwanda’s quest to become a knowledge-based and technology-led economy will be achieved as ICT usage increases.

"The IT industry is growing rapidly in the country, in fact, the recent survey done by TCT shows that 70 percent of ICT graduates pass job interviews,” said Gatabazi.

The ICT Human Capacity Development Advisor at the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Atsushi Yamanaka, attributed ICT development to government’s efforts.
"Rwanda has a lot of potential basing on this rapid development in just 16 years after the Genocide,” said Yamanaka.

However, he added more technicians are needed to fill the skills gap in the country.

The ICT development is being supported by Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA), which strengthens Tumba College of Technology through capacity building.
