The two-day media dialogue, that kicks-off today, brings together various experts in the field to figure out how the media landscape in Rwanda can be developed further.

Organised by the Media High Council, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Information, as well as journalists and other stake holders, the dialogue presents an opportunity to elevate the industry to a level where it benefits the country’s overall development agenda.

As the country embarks on working tirelessly to actualize transformation over the next 7 years, the media fraternity should form part and parcel of this journey, hence the need to embark on concerted efforts to examine how the media industry should be rejuvenated to serve its core purpose.

Additionally, the conference should address the issue of press freedom rankings. Various media watchdogs will be present, and the air should be cleared regarding their questionable methodologies that have, more often than not, been designed to portray the country as lacking in the area of media freedom.

In general, the dialogue presents a good starting point for opening a new chapter within the industry. Once a new roadmap is drawn up, after the event, all stakeholders should re-examine their ways and make adjustments accordingly.
