FOLLOWING Amavubi’s recent goal drought, the team’s head coach Sellas Tetteh has beefed up the striking line by naming Abedi Mulenda and Peter Kagabo in his 20-man squad for this year’s Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup which kicks off this Saturday in Dar es Salaam.

According to Tetteh’s assistant coach Eric Nshimiyimana, the Rayon Sport attacking pair provides more options for the Ghanaian who has struggled to settle in his new position.

"They are experienced players and bring a new dimension to the side.”

Tetteh’s last victory with the national team came back in May when Rwanda beat Tanzania to qualify for the 2011 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).

In the two played 2012 Nations Cup qualifiers, Amavubi suffered identical 0-3 defeats against Ivory Coast and Benin. And more recently, the wasps succumbed to a 1-0 defeat against Malawi in Blantyre.

These defeats have piled more pressure on Tetteh and there is no doubt that the Ghanaian is desperate to get his out-of-form team winning again in Tanzania.
This year, Rwanda is drawn in Group B alongside Sudan, Zanzibar and Ivory Coast.

Group A has Burundi, Somalia, Zambia and hosts Tanzania while Group C pits defending champions Uganda against Kenya, Ethiopia and Malawi.

The top two teams and the best two qualifiers from all the three groups will progress to the quarter-finals.
At the end of the two-week event, the winner will pocket $30,000 (Rwf17.7m) while first and second runners up will settle for $20,000 (Rwf11.8m) and $10,000 (Rwf5.9m) respectively.

For the likes of Rwanda, Ivory Coast, Uganda and Sudan, the event is a good platform for CHAN.
