The National Police has contracted a local private firm, NK&K Services, to the carry out systematic recording of candidates who intend to take driving licence exams, which kicked off yesterday across the country.

Traffic Police chief, CSP Vincent Sano, said that the firm was contracted because the police did not have enough equipment to handle the large number of people who apply for both provisional and additional category (practical) tests.

"There will be a comprehensive registration before tests begin, aimed at systematic recording of candidates and thereafter communication to each by SMS concerning their results and location to collect their driving licenses,” Sano said

He said that every person will be charged Rwf 500, by the firm for registration before seating for the tests.
"This was done to enhance our services in terms of transparency.” Sano said. This, he added, will also help release the results within a shorter period.

Results for provisional tests will be released in less than a month, instead of the two months, while practical tests’ results will take a maximum of 45 days.

"We will be working with NK&K in the process of updating our database to have theory tests done online,” Sano noted.
