Prisons in Rwamagana, Bugesera and Ngoma districts have joined the beautification exercise in the districts’ town centres.

The activity is one of the many being carried during the 14 days of Prisons Week. In Ngoma, the inmates planted trees and flowers along the Hospital - Musanvu road in Kibungo town.

Francois Ntirushwa, the Director of Kibungo Prison, said that they will also build houses for the vulnerable and clean the main district market and its environs.

"Our aim is to make Kibungo town shine,” he said.
In Bugesera District, the Director of Rilima Prison, Thereza Kubwimana, said that the focus will be on building classrooms for the 9-year Basic Education programme. They will also make school gardens and plant trees.

"We shall plant trees on over 10,000 hectares. Classrooms for the schools will be constructed in the 14 days,” she said.

The Mayor of Rwamagana, Nehime Uwimana, said that the Prisons week will leave the Rwamagana-Kigali highway covered with green trees and colourful flowers.

"Prisons have enough manpower…we shall cover activities that would have otherwise cost us over Rwf10 million,” he said.
