KARONGI - Hardly two months to the end of the current term of local leaders countrywide, the leadership of Kamonyi District has vowed to maintain unity and cooperation.

Speaking at the closure of a three-day district leaders’ retreat held in Karongi District, Kamonyi Mayor, Jacques Rutsinga, asked the outgoing administration not to feel weary.

"Like we started this term of office, we all need to stay united and stand together until the end,” Rutsinga said.
He expressed gratitude for the good cooperation that the district administration and the advisory council had offered, to facilitate the district’s development.

Rutsinga, however, pointed out that more efforts were required to reduce unemployment, especially among the youth, and foster ICT usage in the district.

He noted that significant achievements had been registered in various sectors such as agriculture, clean water, power distribution and infrastructure.

Aaron Vuganeza, the president of the District Advisory Council, disclosed that over 98% of the council’s recommendations had been implemented.

"Cooperation between the two arms of the district leadership remained solid and that is how we were able to achieve all this. We should endeavour to stand together until the end,” Vuganeza said.
