MELE Bizimana and Yusuf Barakamfitiye’s involvement in the first leg of the ITF East Africa 18 and Under circuit was short-lived after yesterday’s first round exit in Bujumbura.
Bizimana fell to Burundi’s Yusuf Barakamfitiye 4-6 6-7 (5) while Anatole Bizimana lost out to Amadi Kagoma in the decisive set (4-6). The youngsters had shared out the opening two sets 4-6 and 6-3.
On a lighter note, Mubarak Harelimana beat Ghana’s Bernard Dugbah 6-3 3-6 6-0 to set up a second round clash with Great Britain’s Isaac Stoute.
In the girls’ category, Giselle Umumararungu opens her quest this morning with a first round tie against Damaris Musera of Kenya.
From Bujumbura, the circuit will shift to Kigali for the second and third legs. The second led is slated to run from November 29-December 4 while the third leg will run from December 6-11.
