Malaysian side Terengganu Polygon Cycling Club are optimistic they can excel at the forthcoming 2023 Tour du Rwanda slated for February 19-26.
The Asian cycling club put up exceptional performance at the Tour of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates with new signing Aiman Cahyadi winning the Climbers classification on January 31.
Eritrean Metkel Eyob and Irwandie Lakasek also finished on the podium (both third place) in stage three and stage five respectively during the UCI2.2 tour whereas Abdul Rahman Hamdan also managed to feature in the top five during Stage two.
As focus is now shifted to Tour du Rwanda 2023, club sporting director Wan Mohd Nazri Wan Ahmad is confident that his team can continue the momentum and excel in subsequent races including the Rwandan race which is just two weeks to kick off.
"I think our lineup of new and current riders have gelled quite well here (Sharjah) and hopefully they will continue to improve together," Nazri told nst.com
"This is a good result which will motivate the squad for the upcoming Tour of Antalya (Feb 9-12) and Tour of Rwanda,” he added.
Tour du Rwanda, arguably the biggest cycling competition in Africa, attracts the crème de la crème riders from the sporting discipline who vie for honors in various categories.
Terengganu is one of 20 teams that confirmed their participation at the much-anticipated cycling race.
