KIGALI - Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Frank Mugambage, has cautioned the regional media against using their profession to mislead the public by creating and publishing or broadcasting conspiracy theories.

In an interview with The New Times in Kampala, Mugambage urged the media to be professional when reporting, as a way of promoting transparency to benefit the public. 

"Media in all its forms should be professional, whether in region or globally,” Mugambage said.

"They should serve to make contribution in terms of building transparency, pointing out what is wrong or right for the consumption of the people.”

Mugambage added that some journalists have become destructive tools by misreporting - a practice that has tarnished the industry.

"If somebody opts to write in a manner that distorts facts, he is not professional. He has become a destructive element,” he noted.

"I read news papers and sometimes they write erroneous stories, somebody is here in Uganda and is reporting about Rwanda, writing about things, you start wondering whether he thought about them or it’s something that he just designs to pursue a certain distortion.”
