DESPITE holding onto top spot after stage four of this year’s Tour of Rwanda, Team Rwanda rider Adrien Niyonshuti is not getting carried away ahead of today’s 125km Stage 5 (Kigali-Karongi).

Niyonshuti, who is yet to win the tour since its addition on the UCI calendar, says there is no room for complacency and has vowed to keep his feet on the ground.

"This year’s race is very competitive because all the cyclists have experience and the desire to win,” the 23-year-old, who recently signed a new one-year contract with his South African club-MTN Energade said.

"I also want to thank the home crowd for backing Team Rwanda. They have been outstanding.”

Niyonshuti marched into the tour on the back of a 5th place finish in the African continental cycling championship that took place in Kigali but many believe he is already walking the talk after opening up an eight micro second gap over Eritrea’s Teklit Tesfai and a further one minute and forty micro seconds clear of new African continental cycling champion Daniel Teklehaimanot.

Of 120 riders, only 74 are still in contention.
