Kigali-Karongi (125km)
Despite finishing in 17th position during yesterday’s stage four of tour of Rwanda, Adrien Niyonshuti retained the coveted Yellow Jersey for maintaining his number one position in the general classification rankings.
The 23-year-old home favourite, is still eight micro seconds clear of Eritrean Teklit Tesfai and one minute and forty micro seconds ahead of this year’s African continental cycling champion Daniel Teklehaimanot.
Eritreans dominated stage four yesterday after Debesai Frekalsi and Dawit Medhin finished in first and second positions respectively.
Nathan Byukusenge was the only Rwandan to finish in the top ten after clocking 4 hours, 27 minutes and 22 micro seconds. Byukusenge will ride stage five on Monday in the Blue Jersey for being the top home cyclist in stage four.
Of the 74 riders that started yesterday’s race only two didn’t finish the grueling race.
