Employees of the Ministry of Infrastructure yesterday reaffirmed their commitment to deliver on the ministry’s massive projects, that range from road construction and maintenance to energy promotion. The commitment was made as they celebrated President Paul Kagame’s August Presidential election victory.

"This is a day for us to remember and recommit since we agreed to support and implement this programme,” the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Marie-Clair Mukasine said.

"In the area of transport, we pledged to construct 400 kilometres of new tarmac roads and rehabilitate 700 kilometres of the existing tarmac road network. In Kigali, 106 kilometres of tarmac road will be built.”

She highlighted other projects including the construction of a railway line and Bugesera Airport, which she said must be completed within the government’s current seven-year mandate.

The ministry also plans to increase electricity generation by 1,000 MW by 2017, up from the current 85MW.
On water and sanitation, Mukasine noted, "We promised to deliver to all Rwandans, but we do not want to go until 2017. We will finish this in 2015.”
