MUSANZE - The Rwanda National Police yesterday commenced the training for 490 cadet officers at the Police Training Academy in Musanze District.

"Training of the Police force is one of the pillars for the existence of any institution, therefore we must keep the police force trained for the maintenance of national security,” Emmanuel Gasana, the Commissioner General of Police, said at the ceremony.

The eight-month course has military drills it addition to an academic component. The academic component focuses on the structure of the national police, road safety, government policies and conflict resolution.

The police boss urged the trainees on transparency, accountability and safe guarding the rule of law, which he said are the core values of the National Police.

"To achieve our vision, we must exhibit high level of discipline, values, and doctrine of our institution,” said Gasana.

The course attracted 62 female trainees.
Pascal Nkurikiyimfura, the Academy’s chief instructor, praised the performance of female Police officers, adding that there should be intensified mobilisation to increase female officers in the police force.

"Female police officers are needed in police since they help us in fighting gender based violence,” said Nkurikiyinfpura.
The trainees were urged to exhibit professionalism and patriotism in order to protect national sovereignty.
