New Delhi - The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) has awarded certificates to a group of 15 Rwandan journalists who successfully completed a one-month media training in New Delhi.

The certificates were handed over yesterday by Sunit Tandon, the Director of IIMC who also commended the group for its creativity and coming up with a publication pamphlet called "Indo-Rwanda Times’ with various news stories on their Indian experience.

"I am impressed and this is the first group to come up with such a publication. It is a sign of hard work and I hope that others will take up this example,” Sunit said.

The training was sponsored by the Commonwealth Secretariat in collaboration with the governments of India and Rwanda. The training was conducted at the IIMC institute with the guidance of Professor K. M. Shrivastava, and Gopal Misra, Juhi Kahul –among some of the experienced media personalities in India.

The New Times’ Daniel Sabiiti, was rewarded with US$100 for his outstanding hard work, team spirit and publishing various stories on the India-Rwanda experience.

The Rwandan journalists also commended the sponsors for the training and requested a continuous collaboration in media capacity building between the two countries.

Kellen Kirungi, a trainee from Rwanda Television said: "The training has improved our skills, and there was a lot to learn and experiences to share, which can enrich the media in Rwanda.”

The group received skills in news coverage, editing, and broadcasting in radio, print and television. They also visited major intuitions, enterprises and historical sites and held various talks with famous personalities in India. The team was scheduled to arrive in Kigali today.
