Host Sudan qualified automatically whilst 15 teams emerged from the qualifying series. Others include Algeria and Tunisia (Northern Zone); Mali and Senegal (Zone West A); Ghana, Ivory Coast and Niger (Zone West B); Cameroon, Gabon and DRC (Central Zone); Uganda and Rwanda (Central-East Zone); Angola, South Africa and Zimbabwe (Southern Zone).
Rwanda qualified at the expense of their Tanzanian neighbours. Midfielder Haruna Niyonzima scored the lone goal of the second leg to ensure Amavubi Stars advanced on goal aggregates (2-1).
The tournament which is limited to players featuring in their countries’ domestic leagues is slated to run from February 4-25 in Khartoum, Sudan.
