RUBAVU - Seven employees of Rubavu District who were supposedly sacked unfairly, last year, by the district authorities, have been reinstated following the intervention of the Minister of Labour and Public service.

The District Mayor, Sheikh Hassan Bahame, told The New Times yesterday, that they delivered letters of re-appointment to the employees and they were expected to report back to work with immediate effect.

According to the Mayor, the employees were dismissed on grounds of negligence of duty, mismanagement of resources and breaching the tendering process, among other cases. However, he said, there was documentary evidence to back up the allegations.

"There was lack of evidence to pin them.” Bahame said.
According to a letter from the Ministry of Labour addressed to the district, the reinstated workers are supposed to occupy the same positions they held prior to their sacking, with the same remunerations.

"The district council has discussed the letter from the Ministry and wishes to reinstate the former employees,” Bahame said, adding that those who had gotten jobs elsewhere can either return or will be compensated accordingly.
