AMAVUBI were again rendered harmless after yesterday’s 1-2 defeat against Malawi in Blantyre’s Kamuzu Stadium.
SC Kiyovu forward Dady Birori gave the visitors a good start after scoring in the 5th minute but two well taken second half strikes swayed the game back in Malawi’s favour.

The loss adds up to recent 2012 Africa Nations Cup defeats against Ivory Coast and Benin. Rwanda’s last win came back in June when the Wasps beat Tanzania 1-0 to seal their slot in next year’s Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).

Amavubi’s display was below par considering the fact that the Flames were without several key players like goalkeeper Swadick Sanudi, midfielders Robert Ng’ambi, Harry Nyirenda, Moses Luba Chavula and striker Russel Mwafulirwa.

The team returns this afternoon before heading straight into camp ahead of the upcoming Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup set to run from November 27 to December 12 in Dar es Salaam and Mwanza.

Group A features hosts Tanzania, Zambia, Burundi and Somalia, while Rwanda, Ivory Coast, Sudan and Zanzibar make up Group B, with Group C pitting defending champions Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Malawi.

The top two teams in each group and the best two qualifiers from all the three groups will progress to the last eight. Serengeti Breweries are the official sponsors after splashing $450,000 (approx. Rwf263m) into the tournament.

For the likes of Rwanda, Ivory Coast, Uganda and Sudan, the event is a build-up to January’s Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Khartoum, Sudan.
