URUGWIRO VILLAGE - English businessman, philanthropist, and chairman of Premier League football team, Wolverhampton Wanderers — commonly known as Wolves — Steve Morgan, yesterday announced his interest in funding the activities of WaterAid in Rwanda.
He made the remarks shortly after paying a courtesy call on President Paul Kagame at Urugwiro Village.
WaterAid is an international non-governmental organization and is currently operating in Bugesera District facilitating access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation.
"We are working with WaterAid to try and assist in the role of water and sanitation here in Rwanda,” Morgan told the press.
He revealed that it was his first time in Rwanda, and added that it was his favourite African nation.
"We intend to allocate over US$1m to the project. Work has already started,” he said.
The WaterAid project in Rwanda will last for three years and Morgan intends to fully fund it up to its end.
The project focuses on low-cost, appropriate and sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene technologies and approaches to ensure the most vulnerable groups improve their hygiene practices and gain access to water and sanitation.
