It was a competitive weekend, as three Banyarwanda  cultural troupes in Uganda, camped at Kampala’s Efendys Restaurant & Bar, to compete for the first-ever dance prize organized by Banyarwanda association, Umubano. 

The event attracted three troupes, Ingyenzi, Umuco and Imanzi. The ceremony was graced by Uganda’s Ethics and Integrity Minister, Dr James Nsaba Buturo, and Mzee Donati Kananura, the chairman of Umubano, among other dignitaries.

Ingyenzi troupe emerged the winner, pocketing Shs 500,000 (about Rwf 150,000) and a trophy, while Umuco bagged Shs 300,000 and Imanzi Shs 200,000.
The function attracted hundreds of concert-goers from around the Ugandan capital.

Speaking at the event, Minister Nsaba urged the Banyarwanda community in Uganda to maintain their culture as a way of preserving their identity and history.

The organizers said that the aim of the competition was to promote the Rwandan culture in Uganda, as well as the region.
