As the African Union ICT Week kicked-off yesterday, Gasabo 3D, a local web based engineering services company, began working with carpenters and metal workers in Gakinjiro, Nyarugenge District, to demonstrate modern and efficient methods of working by using computer aided design and manufacturing techniques.

From the 15th to 21st November, craftsmen from Gakinjiro will be given hands-on training in how to improve efficiency and consistent production of high quality furniture and metal products by using modern technology.

The weeklong event was kicked off on Sunday with talk shows on both radio and TV where the Minister in the President’s Office in charge of ICT, Ignace Gatare, challenged the public to address issues concerning the current state of ICT development in the country and its impact in people’s lives.

Addressing the public, Gatare focused on the integrated nature of ICT and its role in the promotion of economic development.

"Continue to support our government’s efforts in building sustainable ICT systems and infrastructure,” Gatare urged the public.

"ICT is completely essential in the advancement of social services delivery, good governance, business competitiveness and job creation”.

The countrywide event which was also launched in Muhanga District today, will organize seminars and demonstrations at designated ICT centres all over the country, to showcase and train the population on new and innovative technologies that can improve their businesses and daily lives.
